Farm Update: New Milestones, Crops, and Expansion Plans

We are thrilled to share exciting updates as Grow Space Vertical Farms continues to grow, both in membership and innovation! Here’s what’s new at the farm:

Founding Membership Update

We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from our founding members! We have reached 89 founding members and only have 11 founding memberships remaining. Your enthusiasm is what drives us forward, and we look forward to engaging more closely with all of you as we continue to grow.

Ribbon Cutting Event

We are excited to announce that our ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for October 25th at 1:00 p.m. We would love for our community to join us in celebrating this milestone. It’s a great opportunity to see the farm and meet our team as we kick off this exciting new chapter.

Welcoming New Staff

We are excited to have welcomed several new team members who have already made a significant impact. Their help and support have been a welcome addition to the operation, and we can’t wait to highlight our team on the website soon. Until then, here’s a quick introduction to our team:

  • Elizabeth has been supporting Jane Carlson (mom/grandma) with the microgreen operation.

  • Maddy has been harvesting basil, spinach, and supporting the lettuce growing operation.

  • Simone has joined us and has been initially supporting the lettuce operation that Angela Carlson has primarily overseen.

  • Dee is helping us with facilities and farm equipment maintenance, along with business development efforts.

  • Dylan, the first team member to join the family, supports us in farming equipment assembly, among other things.

  • Owen is the most recent team member to join the farm, you will likely see him during our Thursday and Saturday pick-up times.

We are so grateful for their dedication and look forward to continued success with them on board.

Experimenting with New Crops: Tomatoes & Peppers

Innovation is at the heart of what we do! We are currently experimenting with tomatoes and peppers, and we already have both growing inside the farm. At this stage, it’s very much research and development, and our founding members will be the first to receive samples. We can't wait to hear your feedback as we explore expanding our crop offerings.

Additionally, we continue to find ways to innovate and make the most of our resources. CEO Robert Carlson and I are working on a plan to capture the heat generated from farming equipment on the first floor to warm the tomato grow tents on the second floor. The leafy greens thrive at cooler temperatures, while tomatoes and peppers need warmer conditions. By capturing heat from the water chillers that cool our hydroponic system, we’re able to efficiently transfer that warmth to the grow tents above.

Expanding Pickup & Delivery Options

We are always working on ways to make our produce more accessible. We’re exploring

additional pickup times, locations, and options, so stay tuned for more developments. We’ve also added office delivery, and are currently serving a handful of local offices. If you’d like fresh greens delivered to your workplace, simply reach out through the contact form on our website to set up a delivery!

Local Restaurant Partnerships

We’re proud to be supplying two local restaurants with our greens:

  • Apis in Kenosha is currently using our basil, romaine, and a variety of microgreens.

  • Cut Stone, also in Kenosha, receives a weekly bucket of living basil, allowing them to harvest fresh basil directly from the plant in their restaurant.

Be sure to stop by and support these local businesses and amazingly unique Kenosha establishments.

Available Crops

Our current offerings include a variety of fresh, sustainable produce:

  • Lettuce Varieties: Romaine, Summer Crisp, Red Oak, and Butter Crunch (all available as living plants for subscription and on-demand).

  • Living Plant Crops: Kale and basil (available for subscription and on-demand).

  • On-Demand Only: Swiss Chard and Collard Greens.

  • Microgreens: Always popular and available for subscription or on-demand.

Thank you for all the wonderful feedback you’ve been providing. We love hearing how much you’re enjoying our greens!

Farm Buildout Progress

We are nearing completion of the first-floor farm buildout. Once complete, we’ll be introducing new “clean room” initiatives, elevating our clean farming practices to the next level. This is a huge step toward ensuring the highest quality produce for our members.
